The world’s lightest laptop: Just 634 grams!

Ana sayfa / News

Japanese technology giant Fujitsu has introduced its new UX-K3 model, pushing the boundaries of portability in the laptop world. Weighing just 634 grams, this device officially shares the title of “world’s lightest laptop.” It holds this record alongside the Lifebook WU-X/G2, also introduced by Fujitsu in 2022, and the Dynabook Lifebook WU5/J3 from 2024. With this latest launch, it’s noteworthy that all three of the lightest laptops ever produced are Japanese-made.

The secret to this impressive lightness lies in Fujitsu’s expertise in material engineering. Carbon fiber, known for its durability, is used for the device’s top panel, while magnesium-lithium alloy is used for the keyboard and base. This unique combination of materials gives the device a robust structure without adding any extra bulk. To enhance portability, Fujitsu has lightened not only the laptop itself but also its adapter. The AC adapter, which weighed 280 grams in the previous model, weighs just 151 grams in the new model.

At the heart of the FMV UX-K3 is Intel’s efficiency-focused Core Ultra 7 255U processor. This 12-core, 14-thread processor, coupled with integrated Intel Graphics and a built-in AI engine, delivers balanced performance for both everyday and more intensive tasks. The device comes equipped with 16GB of memory and 512GB of SSD storage. This hardware promises a smooth experience for office applications and multitasking.

The device’s 14-inch display boasts a 1920×1200 (WUXGA) resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. This ratio provides more vertical workspace than standard 16:9 displays. Thanks to IPS technology, the panel offers wide viewing angles, covers the entire sRGB color gamut, and reaches 400 nits of brightness. Its matte finish minimizes reflections in bright environments. It also offers a wealth of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB Type-C, HDMI, and Gigabit LAN. Modern security features like a Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint reader and a privacy shutter for the webcam haven’t been overlooked.

Fujitsu claims the UX-K3 offers approximately seven hours of battery life during video playback and up to 18 hours in standby mode. Priced at approximately $1,863, this model is aimed at professionals and users who prioritize ultraportability over raw performance. The company has also introduced a heavier version, the U77-K3, which weighs 869 grams but offers up to 35 hours of battery life.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Is weight the most important feature in a laptop, or is it performance and battery life? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
